Women’s Socks

Women operate differently than men on all levels. This fact is no different when it comes to their socks. While men are extremely straightforward about their socks: dress socks and athletic socks plus the occasional slipper, women are more complicated, wanting many different types of women’s socks.

Unlike the typical male’s rather bland and organized sock drawer, the average woman will have a sock drawer filled with innumerable socks. This is not because they all serve their own unique function and are useful in and of themselves; it is because the woman wants different types of socks.

In the defense of women, they do need more types of socks than men. They need tights for certain types of dresses and shoes, they need leggings for the winter and tights for autumn. Much of the diversity of their sock drawer is born from the fact that they do need different types of socks. The need athletic socks for when they go to the gym or have to take the kids to soccer and they need dress socks for their important business meetings.

There are two major differences between the sock habits of men and women. First, the variety of women’s shoes necessitates many different types of socks. Second, women like cute socks. This is a universal truth that all men need to accept. If it is a fun color, or if it has toes, or if it has frog pattern, she wants it. A woman’s sock drawer is just as brightly colored and has just as many cute animals as a baby’s room.

So, despite the woman’s plausible excuse for having countless socks (the need for them based on countless types of shoes), she has outworn the excuse by abusing it and having too many colors of each sock.
